Have you ever completed a task, reached a goal or pinnacle, and said, "Ok now I can relax, it's all smooth sailing from here"
We should take a moment to celebrate, evaluate, and enjoy the accomplishment and perhaps newly acquired self-confidence in completing our goal.
But just like sailing, we still need to remain nimble, agile, and focused - willing to change course if necessary.
We have a charted course with a destination in mind but have also prepared ourselves for unforeseen events as best as we can and proceed with confidence willing to face challenges ahead.
And if you have prepared properly, the boat is capable.
There is a destination, you know the course and are ready.
You may have laser focus and amazing capabilities, and the destination is in your mind's eye - you can see it.
But unforeseen changes can and will occur.
It's that moment when you may have to give up that single, beautiful destination you have conjured in your mind to chart a new course that can literally take the wind out of your sails (sorry - I had to), and to find the motivation to continue and focus again is difficult.
But remember - the boat is capable. The key purpose of the journey was to take the journey and you have done your best to architect the outcomes but by developing a light grip on the 'vision', we may end up in a better place than we had imagined.
When we are taken off course that is when the real adventure happens. We are challenging our best abilities, tools, and strategies to create solutions. And, we just may end up in a better place than we had envisioned.
The idea or destination may be lost but the key purpose hasn't. By saying 'next' without losing sight of the ultimate goal, we are availing ourselves and our businesses of the ability to realize a better way forward.
Ideas and plans are necessary, but trust the journey and stay nimble. Be ready to say 'next' - especially in this current environment in business and our lives.
Trust the journey. The boat is capable.
